About Theoria

Theoria is a library of the Church Fathers in English: the Apostolic Fathers, the Ante-Nicene and Nicene Fathers, the canons of the councils, and later Fathers of the East.

What is free

The public-domain texts, most of the library, are free to read on the web with no account. A free account adds a few minutes of narration a day and a preview of Research. A membership opens full narration, Research, unlimited highlights and notes, and the translations made for Theoria.

Where the texts come from

Most of the library is the classic public-domain English translations of the nineteenth century, chiefly the Ante-Nicene Fathers and the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, cleaned and set for reading.

Our translations

Some works have no English translation in print, or none in modern English. We translate those for Theoria from the Greek, Latin and Russian.
